Toronto’s Top Places to Hike

Top Places to Hike | Toronto, ON

Before long, the weather here in Toronto will turn cold and we won’t be able to enjoy the beautiful areas throughout the city as much. If you want to get the most out of fall, check out these top places to hike in and near Toronto!

Joker’s Hill Trail

Located a bit north outside of downtown is the Joker’s Hill Trail and nearby Thornton Bales Conservation Area. The trail is just 2.9 km long and has an elevation gain of 82 m. As you journey through the area, you’ll be surrounded by lush wooded areas and plenty of wildlife. You can also opt for the infamous 99 Steps at Thornton Bales — 99 steep wooden steps that offer an arduous workout.

High Park

If you want to stay closer to the city, head to High Park. This area is home to a 5.3-km trail of paved paths that are great for all skill levels of hikers. Not only that, but High Park is home to a labyrinth, a zoo, multiple picnic sites, an adventure playground, an amphitheatre, tennis courts, an outdoor pool, a cafe, and Hillside Gardens.

East Don Parkland Trail

For a more challenging hike, consider stopping by East Don Parkland. This trail extends a total of 10.9 km and is located on the Don River Watershed. Even though the trail is in a somewhat populous area, you’ll still be surrounded by plenty of wildlife, forested areas, and picturesque historic bridges.
