Try These 3 Spring Car Cleaning Tips

3 Spring Car Cleaning Tips | Toronto, ON

With the weather warming up, it’s time to get your vehicle ready for the new season. These spring car cleaning tips are a great place to start.

Make the exterior squeaky clean. With salt and winter weather dirtying and possibly damaging your car’s exterior, it’s important to make sure it’s clean once the harsh weather has gone. This means scrubbing down your exterior with warm water and soap. Also, make sure you clean your car’s undercarriage to prevent rusting and use tire-cleaning spray on your tires. Finally, get a streak-free shine and use a clean microfibre towel to dry your vehicle

De-clutter your interior. Make sure you de-clutter your vehicle’s interior for spring, putting any piled-up garbage into the trash and vacuuming your car’s upholstery for that like-new look.

Clean off your floor mats. Whether your boots tracked in road salt or mud, your car’s floor mats are probably caked with winter grime. Take these out of your car while you’re spring cleaning and pay them special attention. Use carpet cleaner on carpeted floor mats for an extra clean look or wipe down rubber mats with warm water and soap to help them shine.

With these tips, you’ll be well on your way to having a clean vehicle for spring. For even more spring prep, contact us at Nissan Downtown to catch up on all your vehicle’s scheduled maintenance.

How to Get Your Car Winter Ready

Get Your Car Winter Ready | Toronto, ON

Winter is just around the corner, which means it’s time to start thinking about how you can prepare your car for the harsh weather to come. These tips should help you get your car winter ready.

Give your car’s cabin a deep clean. While the weather’s still nice, clean out your car’s interior, giving it a thorough vacuum and wipe down. You never know when you will get the chance to do it again in warmer temperatures.

Make sure you have your winter tools. Don’t get caught stuck in the snow without a shovel to dig yourself out. Make sure you pack emergency tools that you’ll need as the temperatures drop, including a shovel, flashlight, jumper cables, ice scraper, a bag of sand, flares, and extra warm clothing, just in case.

Check the fluid levels. From the windshield wiper fluid to the coolant, make sure your vehicle’s fluids are at the right levels to keep it in working order.

Keep an eye on the battery. Cold temperatures can affect the battery’s effectiveness, so you want to be sure it’s in tiptop shape for the winter season. If your vehicle is due to get a new battery, do this before the temperature drops too much to avoid getting stranded with a car that won’t start.

Change out the tires for winter. Winter roads means ice, snow, and rain, which can really do a number on your traction. Come get a set of winter tires at Nissan Downtown so you can get better traction on the road when the weather gets rough.

2019 Canadian Green Car of the Year Award Goes to 2019 Nissan LEAF

2019 Canadian Green Car of the Year | Toronto, ON

If you’re looking to go green, but don’t want a hybrid vehicle, it’s likely you’ve considered the 2019 Nissan LEAF. This all-electric vehicle is the best-selling option in its segment and has just been named the 2019 Canadian Green Car of the Year by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC).

“As the pioneer of the world’s first, mass-market electric vehicle, we have a duty to offer Canadians an EV that offer more, and continues to spearhead the advancement of the zero-emission segment,” said Joni Paiva, president of Nissan Canada Inc. “We have achieved that with the new Nissan LEAF, which provides the right range at the right price, offering a suite of advanced safety technology, and standard features specifically for Canada.”

To earn the title of Canadian Green Car of the Year, the LEAF had to meet the standard requirements for entry to the awards program, while also satisfying the additional criteria for fuel efficiency.

The LEAF was then put through rigorous testing by 64 AJAC journalists alongside other contestants. It was evaluated over a range of road surfaces and conditions throughout the year and at AJAC’s autumn Test Fest event.

The LEAF, which is currently available at Nissan Downtown, offers 147 horsepower from its all-electric powertrain. This EV utilizes a new lithium-ion battery back, allowing it to drive a range of 243 kilometres — an ample distance for your daily commute.

Refresh for The New School Year: Back-to-School Safe Driving Tips

Refresh for The New School Year: Back-to-School Safe Driving Tips | Toronto, ON

Summer is winding down, turning many parents’ minds to the school year ahead. Along with getting new backpacks, school supplies, and clothes sorted for your children, you should also be thinking about how to best keep you — and those around you — safe during school pickup and dropoff. Here at Nissan Downtown, we’ve put together some back-to-school safe driving tips for you to keep in mind this year.

  • Keep to the posted speed limit. School zones have specific speed limits for a reason — to keep everyone safe. These lower speed limits will give you enough time to react should a child dart out onto the road.
  • Pay attention to your surroundings. Driving distracted is unsafe no matter where you’re driving, but especially in a school zone. Children can run into the road without looking, so make sure you’re continually looking for pedestrians and other potential hazards.
  • Remember the laws around school buses. If you see a school bus stopped with its red lights flashing or its stop sign out, then you need to stop. Keep your car stopped until the driver turns off the flashing lights and pulls the stop sign in. Then, cautiously move forward, looking for any potential stragglers.
